“You know Sonny.. I was accepted into MSM but I wanted to go to Michigan instead.”
Ouch.. PG knows I didn’t get accepted to MSM. She’s teasing me because she knows I’m in love and she’s the most talented person I’ve ever met.
“I love that song ! What are you writing.. the horn lines? Here let me do it. Sonny.. you’re so sloppy.”
She’s still teasing and I love it. Tough French kid from Detroit. She takes my pad and begins to sing the song and write down the notes. She’s beyond amazing and she doesn’t even pretend to gig. We never played together.
I know.. She’s an Aquarius and I’m a Scorpio. But still.. The world should know about some of the super talented people walking around among us. She’s the best of the best and we’re just hanging out.

“I fell.. and dirt and gravel got in my knee. I wanted to cry so bad and I could see them running away.. but you know what I did son. I got up and I ran. I ran past those guys and my leg was bleeding and you know I still had ten miles to go. But you know what..? If you stop – you’re not allowed to cry..”
“That’s right.. you can cry at the finish line.”
“So you know what happened? I passed everyone and I won my age category!”
That’s my mom after running a marathon in Vermont. We don’t always see eye to eye but she’s my mom and I love her. But so what.. everyone loves us. I’m looking for something else and apparently so is she. Over Christmas she showed me an email from Boston. And I think she wanted me to be proud of her. I think she wants me to tell a bit of her story.
———————————————————
I remember Marsh and myself taking our mom to The Running Room in DT Toronto. It was hilarious watching them fit her for shoes. She had no idea how to run on a treadmill and almost fell off a couple of times. I really don’t remember why we were there and I don’t remember what originally got my mom into running but I do know why she runs now.
My sister got sick and then she died. And my mom didn’t know what to do.. so she started to run – for real – & really fast.
The email said.. my mom is one of less than 80 women to have run the Boston Marathon 10 times or more. She’s completed 13 with a current streak of 12 consecutive. Her goal is 26.
I don’t know what she’s worried about. I was proud at 10. (..uhh Sonny.. karma..)
Ok I’m proud you. And I’m blessed to have you in my life.

“Where did you do your Phd?”
“Quebec but Sonny come on.. what does my chart say? Is my new company going to succeed?
B is brilliant and kind of cute. Pushy with a one track mind – and that’s just the Astro talking. But somehow like my mom, she found a situation where she could flourish. It’s only one year old and truthfully who knows. But I do know she likes to program supercomputers and she’s a total goodie goodie who loves green stuff.. so why not? Go Green Super Computers!
(seriously Sonny..)
Ok chill. I’m just saying.. some cool people in our lives.

“Who are you?”
“I’m you from the future.”
“Ok.. then who the fuck am I?”
“You’re Sonny from now.. except twenty years ago”
I gotta say.. the mind goes interesting places when you run.
“I thought we were talking about the really cool people all around us”
No not everyone.
Although.. there is something special in all of us. If you find it in others (not saying you have to go out of your way to help anyone) you’ll naturally see something special in them. And they’ll feel it.. because they are special.
If you can find it in yourself.. you’re not only going to be ok. You’re going to really shine.
Sugar and spice
